Be Inquisitive

Be Inquisitive. This is the second of the six core GSD Factor attributes.

Here’s a quick recap:

The GSD Factor life consists of six attributes: Be Confident, Be Inquisitive, Be Imaginative, Be Present, Be Resilient, and Be Influential.

What does it mean when we say, “Be Inquisitive”? The definition that we have framed around this is:

“The capacity to always be learning, ever the students of life.  To walk in humility knowing that you are not the smartest person in the room, but knowing how to mobilize the right team and people ensures that you are open to the fullness of life.”

There aren’t many things that I know to be absolutes in this world. However, I do know at least one absolute fact: no one person knows everything. Even though there may not be one source to reference for all of life’s questions, I’m a firm believer that you can learn something from every experience.

In addition to recognizing that there is a learning opportunity in every situation, life has also allowed me to develop the ability to determine whether a lesson is one that will teach what TO DO or what NOT TO DO. I have had lots of mentors and heroes from whom I have learned both sides of this equation. I believe we can look to those in our lives, both personally, professionally, or from a distance and ask, “What can I learn from you, so that I don’t have to live it?”

With this in mind, I would like to introduce you to Melanie Husk, fee-only financial planner, educator and empowerment advisor to women.  Her desire is to see women have a plan, create wealth, and achieve their life goals.

Time and again we see and here of the curve balls of life.  Maybe it’s a death, divorce, health scare or loss of income.  Whatever life throws at us, we must be prepared, despite whether we are a man or a woman.  The time we live in requires us to have this plan for our own security and peace of mind.  It’s not wishing for bad things to happen; it’s simply an insurance policy to ensure that there is a plan, and that provides peace of mind.

Think of it like your family emergency evacuation plan or your company business continuity plan.  There is a plan. It’s reviewed; it’s tweaked and adjusted, but it’s there if we need it.

When my own father died from ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), my sister and I had to work through our parents’ financials and try to establish a current and future state for our mom.  It was like navigating a jungle with no compass or tools to get us through the windy paths or thick foliage.  It has taken us years to piece it all together with the help of our GSD Factor Clan that includes our CPA, financial planner, lawyer and others.  Having a communicated and documented plan would have saved so much time and resources and given our family peace of mind.  We hope that sharing our story will motivate others to have those sometimes tough or awkward family conversations sooner rather than later.  Communicate.  Share.  Build that plan.

Now Melanie has a passion and a mission to assist women in having a financial plan in case life throws a curve ball.  Men, we see you and know that you have these same life situations, but ladies first.  Reach out to Melanie directly, and she can connect you with fellow partners that can assist you with your own plan.
