Hi, GSD Factor friends! R.C. Farrish here!
This year at our school our theme of the year is love your people.
Our principals and teachers have been teaching us about what this means. We have been talking about why it’s important. And finally how we can show how to love people. This is my favorite part.
There are 8 parts to love your people:
- Contribute – How can you help someone today? Maybe it’s helping a teacher clean up or helping a fellow student to study. At home I help my Dad with unloading the dishwasher. It’s kind of like when I’m playing softball, we all contribute, that’s what makes us a team.
- Be Kind – Our school defines this as the intentional act for the benefit of others. Sometimes being kind means giving someone a smile or saying a nice word. Other times being kind can look like being a helper.
- Be Patient – This one is hard, especially with my little brother. Sometimes it helps me to take deep breaths and remember to be present. Maybe I need to slow down to listen better.
- Be Honest – When I think of this word, I think of telling the truth. My parents talk about being honest with ourselves and with one another. It’s important to be honest but with love. It’s also important to be honest even when it’s not the popular thing to do.
- Encourage People – I love cheering on people. My Sensei taught me that even if I’m not working out on the karate mat, I need to always be focused because if I’m not working I need to be encouraging my teammates. Both are important.
- Apologize – My parents remind us that we are not always kind. In our family we don’t use the word perfect instead we use progress. We need to remember to say we are sorry if we do or say something that hurts someone else.
- Forgive – We talk a lot about this at church. Apologizing and forgiving often times go together. My parents talk about how we may need to forgive others even though they might not forgive us. Also we may need to forgive someone but that doesn’t mean we still have to be friends with them, especially if they hurt us.
- Thank You – Being grateful for the small things and the big things. Having an attitude of gratitude is a good thing.
So that’s it, love your people. It can look like this or it can look like something different. But let’s be loving with people around us. Ok bye!
